Murder charges have been filed Monday against a 17-year-old man already indicted on multiple charges in the November 2007 murder of a University of Chicago graduate student, according to police.
Demetrius Warren, 17, of the 5800 block of South Michigan Avenue, has been charged Monday with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted armed robbery, police News Affairs Officer Tom Polick said. Warren is scheduled to appear in Violence Court (Br.66) for a bond hearing Wednesday.
Warren is one of four people already charged in the death of Amadou Cisse, 28, who was shot in the chest during an apparent robbery attempt just steps from his home in the 6800 block of South Ellis Avenue about 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2007.
On Jan.11, Warren pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with three count of armed robbery and one count each of aggravated discharge of a firearm and attempted armed robbery, Simonton said. The 17-year-old was not initially charged in the murder of Cisse.
Benjamin Williams, 21, of Dolton; Eric Walker; and Jamal Bracey have also been charged in Cisse's death.
Williams pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery, armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Walker, 16, also pleaded not guilty on Jan. 11 after being indicted on one count each of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, along with three counts of armed robbery.
Bracey, 17, of the 6100 block of South Damen, was charged Jan. 25 with one count each of first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery, aggravated discharge of a firearm, residential burglary and three counts of armed robbery, is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 14 in Violence Court (Br. 66).
Bracey is not believed to be the actual shooter, but is believed to be somehow involved, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.
All four have been ordered held without bond.
According to earlier reports, investigators believe Walker, Warren and Williams committed a string of robberies in and around the University of Chicago campus. Cisse, a grad student from Senegal, left International House about 12:30 a.m., university officials said. An hour later, he was confronted by the offenders and shot, apparently after resisting a robbery, the source said.
Bracey was not mentioned in earlier reports, and further information about his involvement was not immediately available.
Williams, Walker and Warren are scheduled for a status hearing before Porter on Feb. 26.
