Woman Beaten To Death In Alley
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
A woman in her late 30s was found bludgeoned to death in an alley on the South Side early Monday.
Police received a 911 call for a person down shortly after midnight Monday and found the woman's body lying in an alley at 8808 S. Commercial Ave., according to a South Chicago District police sergeant. The alley is located between South Commercial and South Exchange avenues.
A woman who was found in an alley at 8807 S. Exchange Ave. was pronounced dead at the Stein Institute at 1:45 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which said the woman remained unidentified at 5:30 a.m.
The woman, who was fully clothed and did not appear to have been sexually assaulted or robbed, was found bleeding from the head.
A weapon was not recovered but it appeared she was hit in the back of the head with a blunt instrument, according to the sergeant who said the woman, who is believed to be 38-years-old, was allegedly a prostitute in the area.
A witness saw a man who "frequents the area,'' running from the scene with "blood all over him,'' according to the sergeant, who said the death is being investigated as a homicide and police "have a name'' of the man seen.
Calumet Area police Sgt. Brendan Deenihan said at 4:30 a.m. no one was in custody.
