17-Year-Old Boy Shot Dead In Albany Park
Police Search For Shooter
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A teenager who was fatally shot Tuesday night in the Northwest Side's Albany Park neighborhood has been identified.
A 17-year-old male, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Franco Avila, was shot about 7:50 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Ainslie Street and police responding to a report of a person shot found Avila in the 4900 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, police said.
Avila was a 10th-grader at Roosevelt High School, school officials said.
He was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medial Center, according to the medical examiner's office who said he was shot at 4905 N. Ridgeway Ave.
The teen who suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the torso, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry.
A description of the shooter was not immediately available, Henry said.
Police said the shooting might be connected to at least one other shooting in the area Tuesday night.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating, but nobody is in custody early Wednesday.
