Woman Dies When Car Hits Abandoned Church

One woman was killed when a car slammed into this abandoned church on the city's West Side.

A crash Tuesday night sent a car plowing into an abandoned church on the city's West Side, killing one woman.
The impact caused an enormous hole at the building at 5301 W. Harrison St. in the South Austin neighborhood.
A woman passenger was pronounced dead at 10:15 p.m. at Loretto Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The motorist, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and he remained in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. He has not been charged as of 7 a.m., according to police.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
