Former Melrose Park Top Cop Guilty Of Corruption
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Ex-Melrose Park police Chief Vito Scavo was found guilty of all 22 corruption charges in U.S. District Court on Monday.
Co-defendants Gary Montino and part-time officer Michael Wynn were also convicted after the jury deliberated for about 5 1/2 hours.
The defendants were expressionless during the reading of the verdict and had no comment as they were leaving court.
A hearing will be held Thursday to determine bond and security issues.
Attorneys also had no comment, citing future cases against other defendants in related cases.
Scavo was charged with 22 counts of extortion, racketeering conspiracy, obstruction of justice, mail and wire fraud, and filing false personal and corporate income taxes.
