An Austin neighborhood man was charged with murder Sunday afternoon for a Friday night shooting on the West Side that left one man dead and another wounded, police said.
Terrence Gallaway, 28, of the 4900 block of West Augusta Boulevard, was charged Sunday afternoon with one count each of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.
Gallaway is accused of shooting two men about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of North Harding Avenue, police said.
Stacey Adams, 22, 3854 W. Fulton St., was pronounced dead at 9:24 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. A Saturday autopsy determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds and the death was ruled a homicide.
Mobile Strike Force offers near North Spaulding Avenue and West Huron Street heard shots fired and saw Gallaway enter a vehicle. When officers approached for an interview, Gallaway allegedly exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but police captured him after a short foot pursuit, police said.
Gallaway allegedly was in possession of a loaded handgun when apprehended, police said.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle Gallaway entered was stolen, police said.
The second gunshot victim, a 26-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was treated and released from John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
Both Adams and the other man allegedly had gang affiliations, police said.
Gallaway is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing at the Cook County Courthouse at 2600 S. California Ave. on Monday.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
