Two Girls Hospitalized After High School Fight
Scuffle Between Two Young Women At Simeon High May Have Been Over A Boy
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Two female Simeon High School students had cut school when they were attacked by another group of kids Friday morning near the school on the Southeast Side, according to a Chicago Public Schools spokesman.
The two students had checked into division, similar to homeroom, but left the school between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., when they should have been in class, according to CPS spokesman Malon Edwards, who said the fight happened just north of the school.
"The two students were attacked by another group of kids," Edwards said. It was unknown why they were attacked and if the other kids were students, he said.
The students were not seriously injured, added Edwards. It will be decided Monday if disciplinary action will be taken, he said.
Police were called to 400 W. 79th Street for a disturbance involving rowdy kids about 10:30 a.m., according to a Gresham District officer. The school is located at 8147 S. Vincennes Ave.
"There were a couple of girls fighting, which caused a crowd to gather," according to a Gresham District captain. "They were fighting over a boy, it was no big thing," he said.
The females, both battery victims, were taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, according to Fire Media Director Larry Langford. "They got hit with something," Langford said.
