Chicago took center stage on the big screen and red carpet Thursday night.
The new film "Serbian Scars" premiered at the AMC 21 theaters in Streeterville. And as CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports, the movie has several connections to the Windy City.
"Serbian Scars" star and Elmhurst resident Vladimir Racic walked the red carpet. Racic is not only part of the cast, but wrote the script for the film.
"This is amazing to have a Chicago crowd and, of course, to show my film in front of all these beautiful people," he said.
A large part of "Serbian Scars" was shot right here in Chicago, including a shootout in an abandoned Oak Park factory.
The action film is about a Serbian soldier, played by Racic, who comes to Chicago to find his long lost brother, played by actor Mark Dacascos.
A fight scene with Dacascos was shot on the city's South Side.
Dacascos' character doesn't know his brother holds the key to a devastating weapon created by their dying father. A terrorist played by Chicago actor Michael Madsen ("Reservoir Dogs," the "Kill Bill" movies) will stop at nothing to get that weapon. The actor was unavailable to attend Thursday's premier.
"Serbian Scars" is of particular interest in Chicago because of the quarter of a million Serbs who call Chicago home. Chicago has the largest Serbian population outside of Belgrade.
The film opens Sept. 25, which also happens to be actor Michael Madsen's birthday.
