Rewards Reach $20K In Slaying Of Suburban Couple

JOLIET, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Someone could end up $20,000 richer for leading police to arrest whoever killed a married couple in their southwest suburban home earlier this month.

On the morning of March 2, the bodies of Brian Charles, 31, and his wife, Angela (Rinkenberger) Charles, 23, were discovered in their house on East Louis Road in unincorporated Joliet Township. Their 2-year-old son was inside, but unharmed.

"We're hoping these rewards are an incentive for people who know what happened to come forward," Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Nick Ficarello said.

Brian Charles' body was discovered around 7 a.m. when his ex-wife, Kathleen Rundle, came over to retrieve videos for the 8-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son they have together.

Sheriff's spokesman Pat Barry said Rundle found the front door unlocked and walked in to find his body before calling police.

"There was no sign of forced entry and no weapons were found in or around the house," Barry said.Brian Charles was shot multiple times while his wife sustained a single gunshot wound.

There have not been many public developments in the case, but Ficarello, who heads the investigations division, said it is very active.

"We are still tracking down leads (and have) more people to talk to. Our two lead investigators haven't slowed down," he said.

A week after the couple was killed, the families of Brian and Angela Charles offered a $5,000 reward. That amount has been matched by another family who knew the victims, but wish to remain anonymous.

"And we have $5,000 in federal forfeiture funds we're making available," Ficarello said. "(Offering a reward) is something we've done before with these funds, which have to be used for a law enforcement purpose."

And as with any homicide, CrimeStoppers of Will County also offers rewards of up to $5,000.

Anyone with information should call detectives at (815) 727-8574 or anonymously call CrimeStoppers at (800) 323-6734.
