O'Hare Gears Up For Busiest Day Of Holiday Season
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
With approximately 203,000 air travelers passing through its terminals today, Sunday is expected to be the busiest day of the Christmas travel season at O'Hare International Airport.
So far, as of about 1:30 p.m., it looks like -- though it will be crowded -- things will go smoothly at O'Hare. The city Department of Aviation reported no delays and "minor" cancellations at O'Hare and no delays or cancellations at Midway airport Sunday evening. The latest devlopments are a contrast to the delays and cancellations travelers have had to deal with at both airports the past week because of inclement weather.
By the time the Christmas travel season has ended, some 2.8 million travelers will have passed through O'Hare and Midway airports, according to the Department of Aviation.
The busiest travel day of the Christmas holiday week at Midway was Tuesday, Dec. 23, when more than 54,000 passengers were estimated to have been through the Southwest Side airport.
