Robbers Steal From Irish American Heritage Center
Robbers Take Safe Filled With Cash
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Robbers made away with a safe filled with cash early Sunday at a Northwest Side Irish cultural center on the third day of its annual fundraising festival.
The theft happened between 2:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. at the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
One or more offenders broke a window and entered the center, making away with a safe containing an unspecified amount of money, Mirabelli said.
The center was about to begin its third day sponsoring the Irish American Heritage Festival, with proceeds benefiting the center, according to the center's Web site.
The center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Irish culture, music, literature, drama and traditional dance and education, the site said.
No one was in custody for the burglary Sunday evening.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
