When Michelle Obama attends the inauguration and all the festivities, her hair will be done by a chicago stylist who probably knows her as well as some of her best friends.
CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker talked to him about how he'll do her hair next week and how he has created that special Michelle look.
Before she appeared on "The View," "Larry King Live," and even before she graced the cover of Ebony magazine, Michelle Obama sat down with Rahni Flowers. He's been her hair stylist for 26 years.
"She's just a wonderful lady -- bright, young, energetic creative," he said. "She's gone from curlier look over time when she was younger. As she's matured we've done flips, layered flips and then she's gone to a very simple look that's very clean and easy."
Until recently, Michelle visited Flowers almost every week. He's kept her chemically relaxed hair healthy and stylish during the most important moments of her life.
"When they won election night I was actually there behind stage making sure everything went well," he said.
And he'll be in Washington, D.C. to make sure Michelle looks her best for all the inauguration festivities, including the balls. The style he'll create depends on the dress she wears. For now, that's a secret. But if she chooses a dress with a high neckline he'll do a French roll.
Flowers will also style Michelle's mother's hair. He expects she'll want the same look she had at the election victory. As for the girls, Sasha usually wears a pony tail, and Malia often sports braids. But for Daddy's big day, the girl's longtime stylist says they'll want curls.
To make sure Michelle's nails look their best, Bredetta Kendricks will also join the future first lady in D.C. Kendricks says Michelle's favorite cut is a short, clean corporate length that is easy to maintain. Her favorite color is a blush.
Flowers and his team will travel to D.C. on Saturday. He has declined an invitation to move there permanently. Flowers says he will miss his longtime friend, but he's also committed to his other Chicago clients.
