Marshall Field's Purging Brands For Macy's
Good Buys For Consumers
by Dorothy Tucker
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Marshall Fields is slowly morphing into Macy's.
Part of the change includes getting rid of the store's private labels -- so bedding, clothing, housewares and more is deeply discounted.
"This is a $50 shirt for $10 and it's the last one," said Julia Stojak, a Field's customer. "I've gotten shirts for between $5 and $10. You know they're really marking this stuff down. I really can't believe it."
"This is definitely for that bargain hunter, a perfect time to come in and peel through the rack and see what you can get," said Marshall Fields spokeswoman Angela Schwartz.
The deals are incredible. 50, 60, 70, up to 90 percent off for the dishes in the marketplace, $250 sheets on sale for $80...just because they had the Field's label.
"We really need to concentrate on clearing Field's brands because we're now Macy's," added Schwartz. "We need to make room for a lot of great brands to come."
A few Macy's brands are already in the store. But in between the new stuff, look for the closeout signs. You'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find.
"It's a great surprise and I'm finding some things that I think will fit me," said customer Vicki Greene. "I came in looking for white pants. I found a lot of great stuff. I was surprised. I found a lot of things I can wear. It's great."
You'll find the discontinued bargains on almost every floor, but again, you'll have to look for the signs or ask a clerk.
The closeout sales continue until all the merchandise is gone or until September 9. That's when all Marshall Field's stores officially change to Macy's.
