Lemont Scrapyard Fire Struck Out

Firefighters battled a scrap yard fire in Lemont on Monday.

About three and a half hours after it broke out Monday, a fire in a scrapyard in southwest suburban Lemont has been put out.
The box alarm fire broke out about 3:50 p.m. and was put out by 7:30 p.m., according to a Lemont firefighter. It was in the scrapyard at 16229 New Ave., according to a police dispatcher.
There was no structural damage in the fire, which was burning on the scrap, and no injuries, the firefighter said.
The cause remains unknown.
