Jury Selection Begins In Case Against E2 Owners

CHICAGO (AP) ― Jury selection began today in Chicago stemming from the E2 nightclub disaster that killed 21 people in a stampede nearly two years ago.

Jennifer Hoyle of the City of Chicago's Law Department said jury selection got off to a delayed start because of various pre-trial motions, meaning that the trial is not expected to get under way until some time next week.

E2 owner Dwain Kyles, his alleged silent partner Calvin Hollins Junior and the E2 corporate entity are charged with criminal contempt for keeping the club open on February 17th, 2003.

The stampede that night started after someone used pepper spray to break up a dance-floor fight. Patrons then fled for the doors, crushing each other on a narrow staircase.
