Bond Set At $250K For Sgt. Accused Of Embezzling
CHICAGO (AP) ―
Bond has been set at $250,000 for
a Chicago police sergeant accused of stealing more than $600,000 from a police union.
Sgt. John Pallohusky appeared in Cook County Criminal Court on Saturday. He was arrested at his home Friday.
The 21-year police veteran is charged with theft in excess of $100,000 and money laundering.
Pallohusky is head of the Chicago Police Sergeants Association. Prosecutors allege that he raided the association's account by making unauthorized withdrawals and writing checks to himself.
Authorities say he spent the money on gambling trips to Las Vegas, a home in an affluent Chicago neighborhood, downtown hotel stays and steakhouse dinners.
The investigation of the 53-year-old began last month after authorities say they received a tip.
