Woman Dead In I-57 Rollover

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A female motorist was killed Monday morning when the minivan she was driving struck a light pole on outbound I-57 on the Far South Side, according to state police.

The wreck occurred at 3:09 a.m. on northbound I-57 just south of 103rd Street, according to an Illinois State Police District Chicago master sergeant.

A female motorist lost control of the white Dodge Caravan she was driving, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a light pole, knocking it down. The vehicle rolled and the woman was ejected, according to the sergeant, who said the woman was killed.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office was not notified as of 4:10 a.m.

The pole did not strike the minivan and no one else was inside the vehicle, he said.

As of 4:15 a.m., two of three lanes remained closed in the area, which does not have an express lane.

It was too early to tell whether drugs, speeding or alcohol were a factor, the master sergeant said.
