A Matteson man was killed in a Saturday night accident on Interstate 57 near south suburban Calumet Park.
Kevin Edwards, 19, of 6206 White Birch Lane in Matteson, was involved in an accident on Interstate 57 near West 127th Street in Calumet Park and was pronounced dead at 12:07 a.m. Sunday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Edwards was driving a 2004 Nissan south on Interstate 57 when he attempted to abruptly change lanes and crashed about 11:40 p.m., an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper said.
The Nissan spun out, hit a guardrail on the left side of the interstate then rolled in the right lane -- partially ejecting Edwards out the driver's side window, the trooper said.
A Sunday autopsy determined Edwards died of cranio-cerebral injuries from an automobile accident and the death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
Nobody else was in the Nissan and no other injuries were reported.
It was not immediately known if alcohol, drugs, speeding or weather conditions played a role in the accident, but several other crashers were reported in the area late Saturday and early Sunday, the trooper said.
State Police District Chicago are investigating.
