Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan spoke out Thursday about the Blagojevich scandal and the controversial Burris appointment. CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.
The silence spoke volumes. During an interview on WVON's Cliff Kelley show, Minister Farrakhan had a long pause before sharing his thoughts on the situation surrounding Senate seat appointee Roland Burris.
"I really don't like getting into (a) mess, you know," he said.
Then, Farrakhan took on a more serious tone, regarding the governor and Burris. "The process should be allowed to work itself through, before judgment is arrived at," he said.
"Burris is a good man," Farrakhan said. "I have known him not personally, but he's a man that has served the state of Illinois with distinction, with honor. Every post that he has held, he held it with great honor."
And as far as Gov. Rod Blagojevich facing impeachment, Farrakhan didn't hold back.
"You have to pay to play, so Blagojevich is just the tip of an iceberg, and the iceberg, at the top of it, goes all the way to Washington," he said.
When the questioning turned toward President-elect Barack Obama, the minister asked everyone to pray for the safety of Obama and his family during his presidency. The minister also asked that those prayers be extended to Obama's administration, so the current situations facing America, like the war and the economy, can be turned around.
Minister Farrakhan said he's been blessed with good health, following his battle with prostate cancer.
