Father Of Hans Peterson Speaks Out

TOP STORY: Autopsy: Dead Marathoner Had Heart Condition

SLIDESHOW: 2007 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
CHICAGO (CBS) ― The father of the prime suspect in the murder of a Michigan Avenue dermatologist is speaking out.

Thomas Peterson is a doctor himself and he tells CBS 2 that Dr. David Cornbleet made a mistake by prescribing the drug Accutane as the first option for treating the acne suffered by Hans Peterson.

Surveillance cameras captured Peterson entering and leaving the Michigan Avenue building where Cornbleet had his office. Dr. Peterson says Accutane has known side-effects, including psychotic reactions.

"He was in a world of mental illness, where he was not part of humanity," Peterson said. "The drug did that. Now, when you track someone and make them psychotic that opens a whole new deck of cards of what they might do. But our family is also a victim in this tragedy and Dr. Cornbleet's prescribing was part of that."

Hans Peterson has reportedly confessed to the murder. He turned himself into authorities on St. Martin, claiming French citizenship. Peterson is fighting extradition back to Chicago.
