Seafood Market Closed For Mice Infestation

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― City inspectors closed down a seafood market near Chinatown on the Near South Side Thursday after hundreds of mice droppings were found inside.

The inspectors from Mayor Daley's Dumpster Task Force visited Hong Kong Seafood City, 2120 S. Archer Ave., to follow up on a complaint and found more than 160 mice droppings throughout the store, as well as evidence that mice had gnawed into plastic bags of dried bean curd sticks, according to a release from the Department of Streets and Sanitation, which operates the task force.

The store was immediately closed by the inspectors for the critical violations on inadequate pest control and failure to protect food from contamination, the release said.

Before Hong Kong Seafood City can reopen, they must clean and pest-proof the store, revamp their housekeeping and pest control programs, and pass a full inspection, according to the release.
