Brother of Triple-Homicide Victim Killed at Party

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― The brother of a teenager slain in a February triple-murder was killed Friday night at a South Side house party, authorities said.

Carnell Pitts, 18, of 9602 S. Hoxie Ave., was fatally shot Friday at 3248 E. 92nd St. and was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. at Advocate Trinity Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Pitts apparently got into an argument with someone at a party and was shot in the back about 11:30 p.m. by an unidentified gunman, police said.

Police found Pitts in the 3000 block of East 92nd Street after he allegedly walked away after being shot, authorities said.

A Saturday autopsy determined Pitts died of multiple gunshot wounds and the death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating, but said nobody is in custody Saturday night.

Carnell Pitts was the older brother of 17-year-old Kendrick Pitts, also of 9602 S. Hoxie Ave., who was fatally shot during a Feb. 20 triple-murder.

Both brothers attended Bowen High School at 2710 E. 89th St., but Carnell graduated in 2008, said Monique Bond, spokeswoman for new Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman.

Chicago Police refused to comment on the relationship.

Kendrick Pitts was adopted when he was 8 and was recently released from the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center prior to his death.

Johnny Edwards, 13, of 8739 S. Essex Ave., and Raheem Washington, 15, of 9043 S. Escanaba Ave., were also killed in the triple-murder.

Martin Ybarra, 20, of the 8300 block of South Buffalo Avenue, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
