Got $25M? This Mansion Could Be Yours

BURR RIDGE, Ill. (CBS) ― Walk with us down a gracious hallway and through the colonnade.

This is no museum. It's a posh home in the suburbs.

The ornate digs could be yours for a cool 25 million smackeroos.

This mansion is the priciest now on the market in Illinois.

CBS 2's Vince Gerasole takes on tour of the exotic estate.

With Roman columns, Moorish chandeliers and a Jacobean staircase, it certainly is an eclectic mix of architectural styles -- not what you typically find in suburban Burr Ridge. But at $25 million it's the most expensive home for sale in Illinois.

"It's like a palace – 35,000 square feet," real estate agent Kristine Farra said.

The outside alone features 15,000 square feet of terrace space. It weighs 4,000 pounds but the front door does open easily, onto that sweeping staircase marked by hand-carved banisters.

Plenty of room for the in-laws with seven bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. And about 160 tons of Gold Jerusalem stone adorning the floors and walls. How'd you like to mop all that?

There's even a ballroom if your Fourth of July picnic gets rained out. The owner says the word Taj signifies "crown jewel," which is why he calls it Villa Taj -- a name to go along with the price tag.

Look at it this way: With 20 percent down, the monthly payment would be $118,000 -- plus or minus a few thousand depending on the interest rate.

"There are many antiques built into the home itself, literally built into the home, flown in from all over the world," Farra said.

There are dozens of precious doors from Morocco, Algeria and Mexico. There was even a bidding war with a big Hollywood type for the $100,000 doors leading into the kitchen.

The owner is Chicago-based developer Basri Emini.

"It was one time scheduled to be his own residence, but he accomplished his dream and now he's on to see what else he can do," Farra said.

Here's something that won't make it into the sales brochure: its location. The house is located 200 feet from a traffic signal on a corner lot with a double yellow line road, but a good sales person will tell you it's close to transportation.

"It's a mere hop and a skip from the city , easy access to the airport but you walk in, you are in a totally separate world," Farra said.
