A west suburban man was sentenced to 81 years in prison Monday for the 2006 murder of a pizza delivery woman whose body was discovered beaten with a hammer in unincorporated West Chicago.
Bradley M. Justice, 31, formerly of Sandwich, charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery, entered a blind plea of guilty on April 16, according to a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
DuPage County Judge Peter Dockery handed down the 81-year sentence on Monday.
On Nov. 2, 2006, a 41-year-old Karen Hassan, a St. Charles restaurant employee, left to deliver a pizza about 8:30 p.m., the release said.
When she failed to return, the manager became concerned and called her family to see if they had heard from her. The family filed a missing persons report with the DuPage County Sheriff's office, according to the release.
Hassan's body was discovered by police early on Nov. 3, 2006 under a truck at the West Chicago address.
Detectives later learned that Justice, using a borrowed a phone, ordered the food and then attacked Hassan when she arrived. He struck her head repeatedly with a metal hammer, the release said, then attempted to hide her body under a truck after robbing her.
Justice will be required to serve 100 percent of his 75-year sentence on the murder charge and 85 percent of a consecutive six-year sentence for armed robbery, the release said.
