Boy, 15, Dead After Northwest Side Shooting

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A 15-year-old boy has died after being shot in the chest Thursday afternoon in the Northwest Side Hermosa neighborhood, police said.

The shooting happened in the 4000 block of West Palmer Street at 5:47 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Kevin Kilmer said.

The 15-year-old boy was shot in the chest and ran to a nearby home, according to Fire Media Affairs Dir. Larry Langford, who said the boy was initially taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "extremely" critical condition.

Police said the boy, who is Hispanic, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

No one was in custody for the homicide as of 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
