A musical spoof about ousted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has turned out to be bleeping golden for The Second City.
The Chicago comedy group began staging "Rod Blagojevich Superstar!" as state lawmakers were kicking Blagojevich from office earlier this year. The production will move to tourist-friendly Navy Pier and its Chicago Shakespeare Theater for a
limited six-week engagement.
The satiric look at Blagojevich's alleged schemes as governor will run March 26 to May 3 at the Shakespeare Theater's Upstairs Theater.
Blagojevich was arrested in early December by federal agents and accused of trying to trade the vacated Senate seat of Barack Obama for a lucrative job or campaign contributions. As governor, he controlled the appointment and allegedly said on a federal wiretap that the Senate post was "golden" with an F-bomb expletive for emphasis.
The Illinois Senate removed Blagojevich from office Jan. 29, but Blagojevich has continued to make appearances on television in an attempt to clear his name. He reportedly has a six-figure deal to offer his point of view in a book.
The cast of "Rod Blagojevich Superstar!"
visited CBS 2 over the weekend to discuss the show and announce the Navy Pier engagement.
