2 Teens Dead In Bensenville Crash

Accident Stemmed From Street Race

BENSENVILLE, Ill. (CBS) ― It started as a street race, and ended in the deaths of a 16-year-old driver and his passenger.

The teens' speeding convertible crashed into a tree -- splitting the car into two -- Monday afternoon in west suburban Bensenville.

Emergency crews responded at 4:13 p.m. to an orange 2002 Honda convertible that struck a tree on the east side of the street in the 200 block of York Road, according to a release from Bensenville police.

Responding officers found two unconscious males inside the car, which was "catastrophically damaged" and split in two, the release said.

The driver, 16-year-old Adrian Villegas, of Bensenville, was pronounced dead at 4:56 p.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Jesse O. Aragon-Rodriguez, 17, also of Bensenville, also died in the crash, according to a deputy coroner for the DuPage County Coroner's office. He was wearing a seatbelt when he was extricated, according to the deputy coroner.

A witness told police the convertible and a dark-colored car were speeding north on York Road when car left the road and struck the parkway tree, according to the release. The driver of the other car did not stop, continuing north on York Road.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Bensenville Criminal Investigations Division at (630) 350-3455.
