1 Dead In South Side Crash

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A man was ejected and killed and a woman hurt in a two-vehicle accident Friday morning on the South Side, police said.

The crash happened near Indiana Avenue and 79th Street about 6 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.

O'Brien said a male driver was heading west on 79th Street near Indiana Avenue when his vehicle struck another vehicle driven by a female motorist.

The male driver was ejected from the vehicle, and died on the scene, O'Brien said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has not been notified of the fatality as of 6:20 a.m.

The female motorist was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital with minor injuries, Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said.

The cause of the crash was not available, and the police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
