Monika Skrzypkowski was struck by an automobile at North Elmhurst Road and West Kenilworth Avenue.
Bond was set at $500,000 Monday for a north suburban teenager who allegedly struck and killed a 15-year-old girl while driving drunk Saturday night.
Judge Joseph Urso set the half-million-dollar bond for Kevin Schuh, 17, of Mount Prospect, who is charged with aggravated DUI causing death, reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
About 11 p.m. Saturday, Monika Skrzypkowski of Arlington Heights was leaving a park in the 200 block of North Elmhurst Road in Prospect Heights and attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a car, Prospect Heights police Chief Bruce Morris said.
The vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the critically injured girl and multiple witnesses behind.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said Skrzypkowski, of 718 N. Fernandez Ave., was taken to Northwestern Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights where she was pronounced dead at 12:07 a.m. Sunday.
Multiple witnesses described the vehicle that struck Skrzypkowski to police, Morris said, and just an hour after the incident police got a call from Schuh reporting that his car had been vandalized.
Officers arrived to check and realized it matched the description of the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run an hour earlier, Morris said. There was visible damage to the front end of the vehicle.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Schuh will appear for a preliminary hearing at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
