2 Shot, 1 Fatally, In Englewood

CHICAGO (STNG) ― Two men were found shot, one fatally, on a street in the South Side's Englewood neighborhood Saturday night.

The shooting happened about 9:40 p.m. on the 7800 block of South Winchester Avenue, according to police.

James Purifoy, 34, of 7304 S. Fairfield Ave., was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 10:35 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his back, police said.

The other victim, a 27-year-old man, also suffered gunshot wounds to his back and was listed in critical condition at Christ Hospital, police said.

The two were found unresponsive on the street with gunshot wounds by officers responding to a call of shots fired, police said.

Police said no one was in custody for the shooting and a motive remained under investigation Sunday morning.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
