Boy, 13, Killed In Rollover Near Hanover Park
HANOVER PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A 13-year-old boy is reportedly dead and four other people were injured in a Saturday night rollover crash near northwest suburban Hanover Park.
About 6 p.m., a GMC Safari traveling west on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway near Lake Street in Hanover Park lost control, rolled over and ended up in a ditch, according to Illinois State Police Elgin District Master Sgt. Chris Melvin.
As the van rolled, a 13-year-old backseat passenger was thrown from the vehicle, which then crushed him as it went into the ditch, Melvin said.
The boy was dead on the scene, and four other occupants in the van including the boy's mother, who was driving were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Melvin said.
The van passed another vehicle on the expressway before it lost control, Melvin said. It was unknown if weather, drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, which remains under investigation Saturday night.
