1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured In S. Side Shooting

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A 17-year-old was killed and a second person was critically injured in a shooting Saturday night on a South Side street.

Emergency crews responded to a call of a shooting at East 69th Street and South Paxton Avenue just before 9 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

The two males were standing on the sidewalk when unknown shooters approached them and opened fire, according to police News Affairs. Both were shot multiple times.

Ernest Williams, 17, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 10:25 p.m., a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman said.

A second person was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Rosado said.

The incident was possibly gang-related, police said.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
