NW Indiana Traffic Stop Nets 15 Kilos Of Cocaine
WHITING, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
An Indiana state trooper discovered 15 kilos of cocaine Monday night during a traffic stop.
Trooper Jason Carmin stopped a 1996 Jeep driven by Rafael Martinez-Arambula, 27, of Whiting, Ind. for a license plate violation at Indianapolis Boulevard and South Lake Avenue in Whiting. During the course of the stop, Martinez-Arambula and his passenger, Jose Aragon, 29, of Highland, Calif, appeared nervous and suspicious in their actions and stories, according to a press release from Indiana State Police.
Carmin was then joined at the scene by Trooper Michael Jones and his K-9 "Boss." The dog indicated to Jones that the Jeep might have drugs inside, the report said.
Troopers then found 15 kilos of cocaine wrapped in clear plastic inside a duffel bag in the back seat.
Martinez-Arambula and Aragon were taken to the Lake County (Ind.) Jail and charged with dealing cocaine over 3 grams, a Class A felony.
Police then searched Martinez-Arambula's home in Whiting, the release said, where 15 pounds of suspected marijuana was found in a bedroom closet in a black trash bag.
Further charges are pending, police said.
