Daughter Says Father Did Not Kill Her Brother

NORTHBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ― They say it's adding insult to a painful injury.

A family in Northbrook believes police have the wrong man in a murder case.

The victim: a tall, strong 22-year-old man. The suspect? His own father, who has a host of medical problems.

CBS 2's Anne State reports on what the family is calling a rush to judgment.

The victim's sister thinks investigators took the easy way out. But police say, "No way."

It's been a nightmare. That's what Helen Koh says about what happened to her family. Last month, their Northbrook home became a crime scene.

Her 22-year-old brother, Paul, was stabbed to death. Shortly afterward, her father, Hyungseok Koh, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

"And I feel like the police just rushed to judgment and didn't investigate the all the areas of possibility," Helen Koh said.

Helen says her family is close. She says her father is an older man with health problems, hardly capable of stabbing a young man and certainly not his son.

"He's very sad that he's lost his son, and I think that's the only thing he can think about," she said.

Northbrook Police Chief Charles Wernick declined to discuss details of the case. But he said, "We stand by what we did."

He says Paul's body was found inside the home. He says the case was investigated with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force.

The state's attorney approved murder charges against the elder Koh.

Neighbor Elaine Wayne is withholding judgment until she learns exactly what happened that night. But she admits the charges surprise her. She described the family as "very close-knit" and "church-oriented." "Religion meant a great deal to them," she said.

Helen and friends look at photos of her family -- a family she's determined to keep together.

"Every day I wake up and I want it to be a nightmare, I just want to wake up," she said.

When asked what her parents told police, she said, "The facts will come out."

She said her attorney did not want her talking about that.
