H1N1 Appointment-Only Clinics In Suburban Cook County

Starting Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, Cook County Department of Public Health will open regional appointment-only vaccination sites in suburban Cook County.

Free H1N1 Clinics

Are you worried about the H1N1 virus? Starting on Saturday, Oct. 23, the Chicago Department of Public Health is setting up free clinics where you can get shots.

They want to reserve the doses that are available now for people in high-risk groups, which includes pregnant women, people between the ages of 6 months and 24 years, anyone who might have an immune problem and health care workers. 

The free clinics will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at the six city colleges through the end of the month.

Free shots are available at the following City Colleges of Chicago campuses:

• Daley College, 7500 S. Pulaski Rd.
• Kennedy-King College, 6301 S. Halsted St.
• Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Van Buren St.
• Olive-Harvey College, 10001 S. Woodlawn Ave.
• Truman College, 1145 W. Wilson Ave.
• Wright College, 4300 N. Narragansett Ave.

There are also fast-track immunization clinics being set up in the Englewood and Uptown neighborhoods.

Will County Walk-In H1N1 Clinics

The Will County Health Department has scheduled a series of H1N1 flu vaccination clinics at six Will County schools. Officials have recommended that only people in high priority target groups get the vaccine at this time: pregnant women, anyone who cares for children younger than 6 months of age, young people between the age of 6 months and 24 years and people younger than 64 with chronic medical conditions.

The vaccine will be available for free to people who live and work in Will County at the following locations and times:

• Plainfield Central High School, 24120 West Fort Beggs Drive, Plainfield, 3 PM to 9 PM on both October 28, 2009 and November 16, 2009.
• Joliet Central High School, 201 East Jefferson Street, Joliet, 5:30 PM to 10 PM on October 29, 2009, and 4 PM to 10 PM on November 21, 2009.
• Brooks Middle School, 350 Blair Lane, Bolingbrook, 3 PM to 9 PM on October 30, 2009, and 4 PM to 10 PM on November 24, 2009.
• Joliet West High School, 401 North Larkin Avenue, Joliet, Noon to 6 PM on November 1, 2009 and November 22, 2009.
• Hickory Creek Middle School, 22150 116th Avenue, Frankfort, 3:30 PM to 9:30 PM on November 4, 2009 and December 2, 2009.
• Lockport East High School, 1333 East 7th Street, Lockport, 3 PM to 9 PM on November 9, 2009 and November 30, 2009.
• Crete-Monee High School, 1515 West Exchange Street, Crete, 3 PM to 9 PM on November 10, 2009 and December 1, 2009.

H1N1 Clinics In Dupage County

H1N1 Clinics In Kane County

The Kane County Health Department has canceled its scheduled Monday clinics due to the lack of vaccine.

In order to accommodate those who need the vaccine the most, the Health Department has established an appointment system for dispensing limited numbers of vaccinations.

Kane County residents who fall into one of the priority high-risk groups can call the Appointment Line at (630) 444-3189 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

H1N1 Clinics In McHenry County

The McHenry County Department of Health is operating an adult vaccination clinic for healthy children and young adults ages 10-24, health care workers or first responders under the age of 50, and caregivers of infants younger than 6 months under the age of 50. The clinic is by appointment only, and all others will be turned away.

Wednesday, November 4, 5 PM-9 PM:
Johnsburg High School, 2002 W. Ringwood Rd., Johnsburg

The McHenry County Department of Health is also operating a children's vaccination clinic for healthy children ages 2-9. The clinic is by appointment only, and all others will be turned away.

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 9 AM-1 PM
McHenry Township Office, 3703 N. Richmond Rd., McHenry

Friday, Nov. 6, 1 PM-5 PM
The Salvation Army, 290 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake

The Centegra Health System also operates H1N1 clinics for priority groups only at the following locations:

• 4309 Medical Center Dr., McHenry
• 3707 Doty Rd., Woodstock

Walk-ins are accepted Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon while vaccine supplies are available.

H1N1 Clinics In Lake County

At this time, all vaccine planned for the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's first round of H1N1 vaccine clinics (October 29-November 1) has been allocated.

The Department has canceled clinic hours for Saturday and Sunday because of depleted vaccine supplies.

Vaccinations will be available from a large number of community healthcare providers, pharmacies and clinics in November and December. More than 430 local providers and facilities registered to receive vaccine in the county.

Operation Support Our Troops

The holidays are fast approaching, and Governor Quinn wants to make sure the troops get their goodies in time to enjoy them. On Friday, he helped launch Operation Support Our Troops, a holiday collection drive of things like canned meat, soups, pastas, fruit and toiletries.

It's not even Christmas but one suburban woman is already looking past the holidays to help young people.  CBS 2's Harry Porterfield says Diane Carroll is someone you should know.

Seven years ago, Carroll founded "My Joyful Heart" to make gift-giving a year-round affair. My Joyful Heart serves 420 youngsters, ages 3 to 17, who receive gifts mainly through sponsorships, donations and help from volunteers.
