It's the first program of its kind in the country: designed for mid-career, working-class Chicagoans who find themselves jobless for the first time in their lives.
Called Chicago Career Tech, the program has attracted financial and in-kind contributions from some major companies, including Microsoft, DeVry, Inc. and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Students will be paid $400 a week and can still collect unemployment benefits. They'll study two days a week at DeVry or Microsoft, do an internship two days at a potential future employer and work two days at a community-based not-for-profit.
