Melrose Park Police Chief Under Investigation
MELROSE PARK (CBS 2) ―
CBS 2 Investigators have learned through confidential sources that Melrose Park Police Chief Veto Scavo has received a subpoena for a private security consulting business he runs. There are questions involving the use of Melrose Park squad cars and off-duty officers.
A Cook County grand jury has issued subpoenas in the village of Melrose Park. At question is whether the wife of a police lieutenant skimmed thousands of dollars from Melrose Park little league funds.
And a separate investigation looks at whether the Melrose Park police chief did anything wrong when he set up a private security consulting company.
Subpoenas have been issued in both cases, but no one from the village is talking publicly at this hour to CBS 2.
Sources close to the probes tell us Chief Scavo has received a subpoena for records involving his consulting company, which allegedly included private security contracts and fees to protect Melrose Park-based companies like Navistar International.
Navistar was the site of murderous rampage that left five people dead back in 2001.
Scavo's company is being reviewed for the contracts it has helped facilitate through a Chicago-based security company named IFPC Worldwide Inc.
IFPC's Web site says they are located on Cumberland in Chicago and have over 25 years of professional security experience.
IFPC is run by a retired Chicago police officer and has allegedly received both private and public contracts specifically hired to guard construction sites during a multimillion-dollar underground public water line project in Melrose Park.
We are told Scavo is out of town due to a recent death in the family and is unavailable for comment.
And we have learned the wife of the police lieutenant, who is under investigation for her handling of the little league money, has not been charged but is the subject of a police probe.
