Burglar Alarm Company Sued For Consumer Fraud

CHICAGO (CBS) ― The 2 Investigators warned viewers to beware of door-to-door salesmen selling burglar alarms back in August. Homeowners in the city and suburbs said they had been ripped off by a company called Pinnacle Security.

As CBS 2 Investigator Pam Zekman reported, the company's sales tactics had homeowners alarmed over what they describe as deceptive practices.

In a follow-up to that story, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is now suing Pinnacle Security for consumer fraud.

The attorney general's lawsuit alleges that Pinnacle salespeople deceived customers in order to make a sale.

The suit says salespeople would tell potential customers that ADT Security had gone bankrupt and Pinnacle was taking over.

The customers Pam Zekman talked to said they were lied to about getting free installation and how much the service would cost each month.

The lawsuit seeks fines and a court order requiring Pinnacle to stop the deceptive sales practices.
