Teflon May Pose Larger Cancer Risk Than Thought

EPA Calls Chemical Used To Make It A "Likely" Carcinogenic

by Mary Ann Childers
(CBS) There's a potential cancer risk that could be hidden in your kitchen.

The risk comes from Teflon. We're now learning that the controversial chemical used to make it poses more of a cancer risk than was first suggested.

A chemical known as c-8 is used to make the non-stick substance in Teflon. Earlier this year the Environmental Protection Agency said there was only "suggestive evidence" of a cancer risk from Teflon.

Today, an EPA advisory board went further, saying the chemical used by DuPont is a "likely" carcinogenic for people.

The report also calls for more studies on a link between this chemical and tumors in animals.
