One of Chicago's leading criminal defense attorneys has joined the legal team representing
ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Terence P. Gillespie confirmed Tuesday that the agreement was reached during a Monday night meeting with the former governor and other attorneys.
Gillespie says he "got drafted."
The attorney has represented a number of prominent clients, most recently former Chicago political leaderĀ
Edward Vrdolyak and imprisoned former
Gov. George Ryan.
Gillespie declined immediately address specifics of Blagojevich's case.
Blagojevich faces federal corruption charges alleging he schemed to trade or sell
President Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat and squeezing companies for campaign contributions.
He denies wrongdoing.
