Sarah Jessica Parker Talks Life After 'Sex'

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Sarah Jessica Parker was so thoroughly identified with the character of Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex and the City," some fans wondered whether she would ever move beyond that iconic role.

But move beyond she has, and in big screen Technicolor.

First came "The Family Stone," for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination, and now she stars in the romantic comedy, "Failure to Launch." Parker sat down with The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith to talk about the new movie and the new direction in her career.

Parker describes the film's story line, in which she tries to change the bachelor ways of the character played by Matthew McConaughey.

"This is apparently a growing phenomenon in this country," she told Smith. "A growing number of men living at home long past what is considered the appropriate age. My character, Paula, has seen an opportunity for a great business model, whereby she's hired by the parents because my character has determined through research that men develop self-esteem and mature best during a romantic relationship.

"So she sets up the scenario where she meets these men. She's hired by the parents. She pretends to fall in love with them. She safely gets them out of the house and entrenched in adult life and then, with grace and compassion, she extricates herself from these men so they can move on."

Complicating the plot, of course, is that this leading mean proves to be irresistible.

"It's Matthew McConaughey and all the rules go right out the window," Parker says, adding "he is the sexiest man alive."

"I was happy to be there," she says. "I was thrilled to be there. It was the perfect job after 'Family Stone.' "
