Chicagoan A Top Contender For Rock Stardom
Marty Casey Is In Line To Be Next INXS Frontman
by Bill Zwecker
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
A Chicago singer is making serious headway toward becoming a rock star. Marty Casey is one of the top contenders to become the new front man for the band INXS.
But CBS 2 entertainment reporter Bill Zwecker reports, he's taking nothing for granted.
Could Marty Casey be the man? He has certainly heard the praise.
"In my opinion you're already a rock star."
"You're on the right track, keep it up"
From the looks of it, Casey can do no wrong.
"I'm just trying to do things that are going to showcase my talent and showcase that in different ways. Choose a ballad, choose a really hi up tempo song," Casey said. "I'm trying to pull things off what I understand my voice could work for."
But despite the rave reviews, this rocker's taking nothing for granted
"I'm just trying to make it week by week," he said.
Casey found success in Chicago with his band the Lovehammers
"I've been with the Lovehammers since I was probably 13 years old," Casey said. "I'd never known anything outside that band. So this for me has been a personal challenge to see what do I have."
And he's found support where he least expected -- the competition
"I was expecting a bunch of really intense competitive people and I thought it would be all cut throat," he said. "And I got out here everybody's looking to help each other out. I didn't expect to make so many really good friends," he said.
Although he's a top contender, Casey says he has to watch out for the women.
"If INXS really wants to change their sound, they're going to go with a woman. I can put on a little more makeup on. I tease my hair a little more
I don't have chance," he said.
But this is a chance to make his dreams come true, and he's making the most of it.
"Its the greatest thing in my life that I'd never want to do twice," he said..
Casey says because he and fellow Chicago contestant, Jessica, are both quiet people, they didn't bond at first. Now, he says, the two are so homesick, they have become good friends.
