Stretch Your Dollar: Eat Out For Less

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Chicago has so many great restaurants, but eating out can be a luxury when times are tough. Not to worry - we found a way to "stretch your dollar."

CBS 2's Anne State reports that Annie Elzey and Brittany Morris are catching up and trying a new restaurant called Delicious in River North. They paid for their meal, in part, with a gift certificate.

"The total bill was for $26 and we only paid $16," Brittany said.

Annie and Brittany got the gift certificate on Restaurant.com. The site sells gift certificates at a fraction of the cost. For example, you can get a $25 certificate for only $10.

"Yeah, there's a bunch of great restaurants on Restaurant.com. I've gone to Hot Chocolate in Bucktown as well as Landmark in Lincoln Park," Brittany said.

The gift certificates are good for a year. And the folks at the restaurant seem to love it, too.

"We need people to come in to stay busy," said Delicious owner Keith Weinstein. "And we don't spend a lot of money on advertising. It's a great opportunity and now we expect actually a lot of people to come in through the help of Restaurant.com."

If your restaurant goes out of business, Restaurant.com will replace your certificate. A Thanksgiving promotion means you can get $25 certificates for just $3 - about 70 percent off. It starts Tuesday morning and goes until November 30.
