Stretch Your Dollar: Live Homework Help For Free

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Parents, listen up! There's a free tutoring service many people don't know about that can help your kids with schoolwork in math, science, social studies, English and history. All you need is a library card. The kids can ace their tests and you can stretch your dollar.

When 12-year-old Heidi Eurich needs help with math or English, she turns to "Live Homework Help." She can sign on from home using her library card.

"It's good because it only takes a few minutes," Heidi said. "And I can use it any time I want."

Today, she's getting help with adverbs from an online tutor. Sessions are 20 minutes long and available seven days a week from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mary Ann Sibrava of the Mount Prospect Library says it's a great service for families.

"Parents aren't having to go out and pay for a tutor to give their kids assistance," Sibrava said.

More than 60 suburban libraries are subscribing to the program provided by Tutor.com.

Kids from kindergarten through 12th grade can get help with homework, a special project or a research paper.

The online tutors include certified teachers and college professors.

"They help me get through math problems," said 9th grader Urszula Tyl.

Urszula prefers to log on from the library because the computers are faster than hers at home. She says that besides math, the online tutors have also helped her with her writing.

"Writing essays was a little hard," Urszula said. "I submitted my essay, they told me my mistakes."

There are other online tutoring services that charge a fee. To get the free service, your library has to subscribe to "Live Homework Help."
