Stretch Your Dollar: Bank Offers Museum Freebies

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Chicago has a lot of great museums. And, as CBS 2's Anne State reports, many of you have something in your wallet that can get you into some of them for free, if you go the first full weekend of the month. It's another way to stretch your dollar.

The Chicago History Museum has a new exhibit including gowns by Oscar de la Renta and Chanel, showing how the city's upper crust used to dress.

CBS 2 found a group of tourists from Tennessee who paid $14 each to get in. But many of you may not have to. If you have a Bank of America credit or check card, whip it out and you'll get in free, but only on the first full weekend of the month.

And the bargain isn't just limited to the Chicago History Museum. It's also good at the Art Institute and Museum of Contemporary Art.

Bank of America is one of the bigger banks in Chicago, but many of its customers don't know about the museum freebie. The Chicago History Museum says only about two dozen Bank of America customers take advantage of the program every month.

One Bank of America card entitles you to one free ticket. Also, keep in mind, most museums have a free day during the week, as well. And in most cases, kids under 12 get in free all the time.
