Mom Accused Of Delivering Alcohol To Minors

GENOA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A Genoa woman faces a felony charge of delivering alcohol to a minor after a teen attending a New Year's Eve party at her home wound up in diabetic coma caused by alcohol poisoning, authorities said.

Robin L. Grabowski, 39, of 15610 Route 72 in unincorporated DeKalb County, also faces five misdemeanor counts of delivery of alcohol to a minor, DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said.

The teen, whose identity was not released, was listed in critical condition for days. He was released Jan. 5.

Grabowski threw the New Year's Eve party for her son and his friends -- about 12 underage teens from the Genoa-Kingston area, Scott said. According to reports, Grabowski knew beer and hard liquor was being consumed at the party.

According to reports, sheriff's deputies began an investigation after being notified by Genoa police of an emergency call from the teen's home for an ambulance. His friends had brought him home around 9:40 a.m. on New Year's Day and called paramedics, Scott said. Paramedics found the teen breathing but unresponsive, reports stated.

Investigators contacted the teens who attended the party and began developing a case against Grabowski. No other charges were filed against those who attended the party.

Scott said Grabowski was not forthcoming about why she allowed the teens to consume alcohol at the party.

Grabowski turned herself into sheriff's deputies on Friday and was released on $1,000 bond. She must appear in court Jan. 23. If convicted, she faces one to three years in jail or probation.
