Fermi To Get $34.9 Million In Fed Recovery Cash
BATAVIA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Fermi National Accelerator Lab in Batavia will receive $34.9 million of federal money, made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Bill Foster, himself a former Fermilab employee, announced the new funding Monday morning, and said $25 million of it will go towards infrastructure projects in the lab's central computer center, and $9.9 million would pay for the construction of a new device to advance the lab's ongoing neutrino research.
With these projects, Foster and Durbin said, will come new jobs for Fox Valley workers.
Argonne National Laboratory will also receive $13.1 million, for equipment replacement and other projects.
"This sends a very strong signal that the Department of Energy believes in the future of Fermilab and Argonne," Foster said.
