More than 40 Arrested in Chicago Drug Crackdown
CHICAGO (AP) ―
The Chicago Police department says more than 40 people have been arrested in a drug crackdown on the city's South Side.
Officers seized 18 firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns during Thursday's operation. They also confiscated $50,000 in cash, 70 pounds of cannabis, two kilos of cocaine and one kilo of heroin.
Suspects were charged with offenses including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
One suspect arrested on narcotics charges is also wanted by the FBI for bank robbery.
Officers conducted the operation in Area 2 in response to concerns from residents. Police say more arrests may be forthcoming.
