Obama 'Sweats It Out' In Philly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ―
A Tuesday morning workout was anything but routine for members of one Philadelphia Sports Club.
Presidential Democratic candidate Barack Obama made a surprise visit to the gym to pump some early morning iron before his 10 a.m. speech at the National Constitution Center.
"Everybody's like, 'Oh my God, Barack Obama is here, in our gym,'" said a sports club member.
Obama simply walked up to the front desk with two secret service agents and asked PSC employee Will Nelson if they could workout.
"I looked at the door and sure enough it was Barack Obama and I told him, go ahead," Nelson said. "His security guys took care of the fee for him."
Trainer Ron Day lifted weights with Obama and said the presidential candidate worked hard.
"He's in great shape, he's in great shape. He's ready for the long haul," said Day.
Obama even took a break and posed for snapshots and cell phone video.
Fellow exercisers described him as an ordinary guy who, like everyone else in the gym, was there to break a sweat.
