US Airways Charging For Beverages
Tempe, Ariz. (CBS) ―
With the rising cost of oil, charging extra for tickets and checked luggage just isn't enough for some airline companies. Passengers will want to make sure their wallets are stuffed before boarding.
Starting now, US Airways passengers flying coach will have to shell out some money for even a drink of water. Fliers must pay $2 for bottled water and sodas. Tea and coffee costs $1.
First-class and trans-Atlantic passengers do not have to pay the extra fees. The company will still provide drinks for passengers in the case of medical emergencies or extensive delays.
The Arizona-based airline isn't the only one scrambling to raise rates and cut costs. Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air began charging for drinks a few years ago. Most other well-known airlines do not plan to give up on complimentary beverages.
