Irv's Clothing Store To Close Last Location
Chain Used To Brag About Being 'Inconveniently Located'
PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Ill. (CBS) ―
The iconic Irv's clothing store is closing the last of what was once a chain of city and suburban locations, according to published reports.
Irv's Men's Clothing, at 610 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Prospect Heights, will close in January after almost 50 years, owners told the Daily Herald this week.
The store previously operated several other stores, including a location on Lemont Road in Darien and the original location near Fullerton and Laramie avenues in Chicago. They bragged about being "inconveniently located" in their ads and radio commercials.
Business at the discount clothing stores used to improve during economic times, but a decrease in the popularity of suits has made it more difficult for Irv's to remain competitive, owner Scott Schlief told the Daily Herald.
